jinx

Somebody once told me that naming a friendship puts into it a jinx.

Maybe he was right.

For naming a friendship is maybe putting into it as well unuttered expectations, unchecked assumptions. Maybe naming it is jinxing it because it also means making it, us vulnerable.

But what if I say it does not really.

Ever heard of pet names?

Bossing, Yaya, Sunshine, Peklat, Huggiebear, bok, tsong.

I’ve got a few names in mind, and in retrospect, I have kept these friends with me for quite some time now. I have been able to transcend those unuttered expectations and unchecked assumptions with them.

Maybe it’s not at all a jinx.

Maybe it’s like a prayer, naming a friendship or a friend is like drawing graces near. For some, it may seem that it breaks it apart, coz in God’s grace; maybe it’s not yet the time. But at the end of the day, what it really does is it makes it even stronger, even better.

Siguro tama ang awit ng MYA…

For now, I shall EAT. PRAY and RUN, yes, run.

  1. jinx is such a sad label..
i believe friends were created for a big purpose.. i think its more on the saying na people come to our lives for three possible purposes.. for a reason, a season or a lifetime..

its not really jinxing it.. and besides, saying yes to a friendship is the same way of saying na you're putting yourself in a vulnerable spot.. its allowing the other to tame you as you are also given the right to tame the other..

people come and go, either way they are gifts and grace in different packages..

    eat pray run?
    run in the meantime..
    and maybe,
love when the heart says its ready..

    :)
